Calgary (pps) He had dreamed of such a feat: As soon as Tyler Seitz had made Canadian luge history by finishing third on his hometrack in Calgary, the best position ever taken by a Canadian luger in 15 years of the World Cup, he said to Germany’s three-time Olympic champion Georg Hackl in the leader box that this was his last race. “This is the best time and the best way to end my career”, Tyler Seitz, 26, explained.
Six years ago the Canadian won bronze at the World Junior Championships on the same track.
His career began and ended in Calgary. “To be honest, I only achieved good results here in Calgary”, Tyler Seitz disclosed. Besides Seitz, Marie Claude Doyen who is now married to Wolfgang Staudinger and works in the FIL headquarters at Berchtesgaden, is the only Canadian luger to have gained a World Cup bronze medal in 1987 in Sarajevo.
Tyler Seitz, who made Canadian luge history at the end of his career in his home-town, will dedicate his time to his business in the future, spend more time with his girlfriend Krista and perhaps later return to the luge tracks as a coach. “Canada has presently the best team for many years, very young and promising for the future”, Tyler Seitz says, thinking most of all of Grand Albrecht and Eric Pothier who finished fourth in the doubles in Calgary and of Regan Lauscher, tenth in the women’s event.
