USA Luge nominates World Cup team for second half of season
Lake Placid (USA Luge/FIL) The Luge Ladies Brittney Arndt and Ashley Farquharson of Park City, Utah, finished third and fourth, respectively, in the USA Luge qualification races Thursday and Friday, completing the USA squad for the second half of the Eberspacher World Cup Tour. They will join the Olympians Summer Britcher and Emily Sweeney, who were seeded for the team based on their results last season, in Women's single starting in January.
"I've been really excited to get back to some racing in the last few days," Arndt said. "My runs were not the best. I had some problems in turns 11-12 both days. Considering that, I'm happy with where I ended up. I'm also really looking forward to finally going to Europe after Christmas for the World Cups and World Championships."
The United States Men's team includes 2018 Olympic silver medalist Chris Mazdzer, three-time World Cup winner Tucker West and 2020 U23 World Cup silver medalist Jonny Gustafson.
USA Luge will bring two doubles teams to Koenigssee for the 5th Eberspaecher Luge World Cup in January. Mazdzer will be joined by two-time Olympian Jayson Terdiman, along with the team of Dana Kellogg and Duncan Segger.
Chevonne Forgan and Sophie Kirkby have also formed a doubles team with an eye toward the 2026 Winter Games. They will train together in the U.S. for the rest of the season, as will the new doubles team of Zack DiGregorio and Sean Hollander.
The U.S. did not compete in the first half of the World Cup season, which ends Dec. 20. This was due to concerns about the coronavirus pandemic and related international travel and quarantine regulations. At this point, however, the team is prepared to fly overseas in late December and follow FIL health and safety protocols upon arrival.
