The FIL family mourns the loss of Brigitte Fink
Sterzing, ITA (FIL/21 Oct 2024) On Thursday, October 17, 2024, Brigitte Fink passed away in her hometown of Sterzing, Italy, at the age of 84. With her passing, the FIL family has lost a dedicated official and former athlete.
Brigitte Fink was not only a successful luge athlete, but also the first chairwoman of the FIL Commission for Youth and Development. At the 1989 FIL Congress in Albertville (FRA), she was elected FIL Vice President for Youth and Development and was thus a member of the FIL Executive Board until 1998. Her role as a member of the FIL Executive Board and racing director of the Italian national luge team (until 1999) underlines her deep commitment to the sport. Brigitte Fink is also considered the one who discovered the most successful luger Armin Zöggeler, whose extraordinary talent she recognized very early on.
As an athlete, Fink achieved third place at the 1957 World Championships in Davos (SUI) and third place at the European Junior Championships in her hometown of Sterzing.
“With deep sympathy and fond memories of an extraordinary personality, the FIL family mourns the loss of Brigitte Fink. We will remember her forever with the greatest respect,” said FIL President Einars Fogelis.
