Innsbruck (FIL) The German team with Julia Taubitz, Felix Loch and Toni Eggert / Sascha Benecken won the first EBERSPÄCHER Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW 2020/21 in Innsbruck. This was the 40th victory of a German relay team in 61 World Cup races. In the end, the German quartet had a 0.030 second lead over the team from Austria in the Olympic track of Igls.
In the line-up of Madeleine Egle, Jonas Müller and Thomas Steu / Lorenz Koller, the local heroes with the starting number six started the race and were in the lead for a long time. They had to watch as Andrea Vötter missed the touch pad and the Italian team was disqualified.
The team from Russia with World Champion Ekaterina Katnikova, former World Champion Semen Pavlichenko and the U23 World Champions Vsevolod Kashkin / Konstantin Korshunov once again put the leaders from Austria under great tension. In the end, the Russian relay finished in third place (+0.121) seconds.
The winners from Germany were happy. Julia Taubitz said: "A relay competition like this is always a team effort. Today it worked out well although we all had a few small mistakes in the run. But we had a great start into the season and can be very happy about it".
Felix Loch added: "We all have the ambition to be at the front to win. But there is always the chance that something can go wrong. This is simply a team effort. We can all be very happy that things started so well in Innsbruck.
