Sigulda takes over World Cup and European Championships from Lillehammer
Salzburg (FIL/19.11.2022) The 54th FIL European Championships in January 2023 will be moved from Lillehammer to Sigulda.
For organizational reasons, the FIL decides to relocate the 5th EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cup and the 54th FIL European Championships to Sigulda, Latvia, after long discussions with the Norwegian luge federation NABSF. According to plan, the World Cup races would have taken place from January 13 to 15, 2023, at the 1994 Olympic track in Hunderfossen, Norway. The date remains in place.
"It is a great pity that we cannot hold our World Cup and the European Championships in Norway in January. We would like to explicitly thank the Norwegian federation for their great efforts. We were all looking forward to the races in Lillehammer, but unfortunately we can't make it happen for organizational reasons. We are very happy to have found a replacement quickly and thank the Latvian federation for their support and flexibility," said FIL President Einars Fogelis.
At the start of the year 2023, a double Luge World Cup will now take place in Sigulda, Latvia. The 4th EBERSPÄCHER World Cup was already planned in the calendar from January 6 to 8 including Team Relay and in the following week immediately the 5th EBERSPÄCHER World Cup and Team Relay and the European Championships as dress rehearsal and last showdown before the season's highlight, the 51st FIL Luge World Championships in Oberhof (Germany).
