Lake Placid (USA Luge / FIL) The head coach of the USA Luge national team Robert Fegg will step down on April 1, 2022.

The Berchtesgaden native, who lives with his family in Calgary, worked for the US federation for four years. Fegg coached the junior national team for two seasons starting in 2018 before moving up to head coach of the national team in May 2020. He led the team through the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games.
The 43-year-old was a luge athlete for Germany from 1997 to 2001 and, among other things, finished fourth in Men’s Singles at the 1999 World Championships in Koenigssee (GER).

USA Luge will begin the search for a successor for the position of head coach with immediate effect. CEO Jim Leahy said: "We wish Robert nothing but the best as he moves forward in his career. In his time with us, he always gave us his best efforts with passion and commitment, and kept the success of the athletes and the organization as his top priorities."

Fegg joined the American Luge Federation after coaching stints in Canada and South Korea. In 2020, he replaced then-US head coach Bill Tavares at the helm of the national and Olympic teams. Tavares, the team’s head coach from 2016-2020, served the following two seasons as team manager under Fegg. After Beijing, Tavares departed USA Luge earlier this month for a position at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee Training Center in Lake Placid.
