Oberhof (FIL-TWZ/09.01.2023) After a good one-week break from icing, the luge track in the LOTTO Thüringen EISARENA Oberhof returns to training. Starting on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 2:00 p.m., the first rides on the 1,354.5-meter-long artificial ice track will be on the schedule. "Ultimately, we made a conscious decision to rebuild the rink with the upcoming World Championships in mind. We want to offer all athletes the best possible conditions at the season's highlight and we also have high expectations of ourselves," says Jörg Peter, technical operations manager of the Zweckverband Thüringer Wintersportzentrum Oberhof. "This process is by no means unusual, as the right track preparation can be implemented much faster and, above all, more effectively in this way."

Due to the mild and stormy weather around the turn of the year, icing was cut back in the previous week. Over the past four days, the rail crew cleaned up the facility and recreated the nearly three-centimeter-thick ice surface. In winter operation, the modernized artificial ice rink undergoes two daily preparation phases, which include ice preparation and technical functionality.

From January 17 to 22, the LOTTO Thuringia EISARENA will host the International Training Week (ITW), for which 20 nations have registered so far. Immediately afterwards, Oberhof will host the World Luge Championships for the fourth time (January 23-29, 2023).
