Garmisch-Partenkirchen (ck) Even though the faces on the podium were exactly the same as in Grande Prairie two weeks ago – Blasbichler ahead of Schwab and Psenner – the spectators saw a breath taking final. After the first run Anton Blasbichler (ITA) and Gernot Schwab (AUT) had been tied, in the second run Blasbichler won by 14 hundredths due to a minor flaw of Gernot Schwab. "In the final part I touched the snow a little bit. This was enough to cause the time difference. But I am very, very satisfied with my second place. This is still my comeback year after the injury and my performance is better than I could have dared to hope." Blasbichler had a perfect second run, was the only one who managed to stay under 1:14,00 and so celebrated his third World Cup victory in a row. "Today there were difficult conditions, I have a lot of routine and I know how to adjust. And I do not get nervous easily. Besides that there is a lot of pressure from my younger team mates, they make me hurry up," he says with a smile.
The third place took once again Martin Psenner (ITA) who already showed his good form in Canada, where he had not been beaten until he had a major mistake in his final run.
Bad luck had Roland Kallan (AUT). After a completely messed up first run he was ranked 17th only. In his excellent second run a technical problem stopped the timing, so he had to repeat his second run. "Why didn´t they have the technical problem during my first run?" he said, but he had another really good second run (second best time of the day) and finally finished 13th.
