The race calendar for the FIL World Cup in natural track luge has been set. The highlight of the 2024/2025 season will be the 25th World Championships in Kühtai (AUT). The International Luge Federation (FIL) has approved the race calendar for the upcoming World Championship season.
The globes for the overall winners
Berchtesgaden (FIL/02.10.2024) The race calendar for the 2024/2025 season, as usual, includes six World Cups and one Eliminator race, making for a total of seven races in the categories of women’s singles, men’s singles, and doubles. The season begins shortly before christmas in Winterleiten (AUT) with a double worldcup from December 20-22. After the turn of the year, the third World Cup is scheduled to take place in Laas/Lasa (ITA) on January 5-6, 2025, before the battle for medals in Kühtai from January 17-19. For the first time, the winter sports resort located between Innsbruck and the Ötztal Valley will host natural track luge championships. The races will be held on the newly constructed "Kühtai" natural track, where a World Cup race was held for the first time in December 2023.
Immediately following the championship event, the fourth World Cup will take place in Mariazell (AUT) on January 25-26. Athletes can look forward to an especially intense race weekend from February 7-9 in Umhausen. The fifth World Cup will be held on the 2021 World Championship track, followed by the only Eliminator race on Sunday. The World Cup finale will then take place on February 22-23 on the 2023 World Championship track in Deutschnofen/Nova Ponente (ITA).
“With the race calendar, we had to adapt to the changed conditions. In Kühtai, which is a tourism hotspot, no accommodations are available during the typical World Championship month of February, so the World Championships were moved to January. In order to give nations enough races to nominate their teams for the World Championships, we’re starting the winter season with a double World Cup. I expect an exciting season and hopefully, the overall World Cup decisions will come down to the finale,” said FIL Natural Track Director Andreas Castiglioni.
Junior European Championships in Latsch/Laces
The Junior World Cup in natural track luge begins in late December 2024 in Winterleiten. After races in Passeiertal/Val Passirio (ITA) and Umhausen (AUT), the finale will be held in Laas/Lasa (ITA) in early February 2024. The highlight of the season for young lugers will be the Junior European Championships from February 15-16 in Latsch/Laces (ITA). The 2025 FIL Youth Games will be held on the last weekend of January in Jaufental/Val Giovo (ITA).
