Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher claimed their first World Cup win this season

Mariazell (FIL/25.01.2025) – Due to the thaw over the past few days, the natural track luge World Cup is being held on a shortened course, but this does nothing to lessen the excitement. In the doubles race, world champions Matthias Lambacher/Peter Lambacher secured their first victory of the season with a time of 54.82 seconds, ahead of local favourites Maximilian Pichler/Nico Edlinger (AUT/+0.44 seconds) and Tobias Paur/Andreas Hofer (ITA/+0.58).

"Our start to the season was miserable, but now the equipment feels great again. Racing is really fun once more," said Matthias Lambacher. "The overall standings are still wide open, and we will fight to the very last metre," announced Peter Lambacher.

Pichler/Edlinger continue to lead the overall standings with 385 points, with Lambacher/Lambacher moving up to second place (325), while Paur/Hofer (310) have dropped to third.

On Sunday, the competition in Mariazell continues with the singles races. For world champion Michael Scheikl (AUT), it will be his last home race before retiring at the end of the season, while world champion Evelin Lanthaler (ITA) is aiming for her 55th World Cup victory. This would see her draw level with Ekaterina Lavrenteva (RUS) in the all-time rankings.
