Korean Luge Federation (KLF) Holds International Referee Course with IRO 2024 Edition
Seoul (FIL/13 Sept 2024) On September 6th and 7th, 2024, the Korean Luge Federation (KLF), in collaboration with the International Luge Federation (FIL) and with financial support from the Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO), conducted a two-day international referee course at the Olympic Park in Seoul.
More than 40 participants, including experienced referees and new officials seeking certification, attended the course. The sessions were expertly led by the Chairman of the KLF Referee Committee, Mr. Shin Sungsik, who had been appointed by the FIL as a delegate for referee training in South Korea.
KLF President Ms. Jieun Park expressed her enthusiasm: “The primary reason for this course was to provide existing national technical officials (NTOs) with training on the rule changes in 2024. Since the eighth stage of the Luge World Cup for the 2024/2025 season has been awarded to KLF, we decided to open this course to individuals who wish to obtain this certification.”
Ms. Park further stated: “During the FIL congress in Lake Placid this year, I emphasized how important it is to preserve not only the infrastructure but also the human resources from the Olympic Leagacy. This is a step forward toward another potential challenge, such as hosting World Championships in the near future.”
Those who successfully completed the course and passed the certification test will be invited to a practical training session by KLF in December. Approximately 20 of the 27 certified candidates will serve as NTOs during the EBERSPAECHER World Cup in PyeongChang in February 2025.
