Paris (FIL/24  Jul. 2024) The 142nd IOC Session took place from July 22 to 24 in Paris, France. The French Alps were chosen to host the XXVI Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games in 2030 and Salt Lake City in the US state of Utah for 2034.

The vote of the members of the 142nd IOC Session in Paris was subject to the condition that the guarantee for the organization of the Games be presented within the deadlines set by the IOC Executive Board, as this was not possible before the choice of host for constitutional reasons in the current political context in France. The French Alps 2030 delegation was led by French President Emmanuel Macron, who expressed France's full commitment to these Games.

The guarantee to host the Games should be received by the Prime Minister by October 1, 2024 at the latest and ratified by the French Parliament by March 1, 2025 at the latest.

The Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 delegation was led by the Governor of Utah, Spencer Cox.

IOC President Thomas Bach said: “Salt Lake City and Utah are longtime friends of the Olympic Movement, and we are confident that they will host exceptional Olympic and Paralympic Games, as they did years ago. The legacy of 2002 is tangible and alive in Utah. The legacy of 2034 begins today."

Governor Cox said, “The Olympics and Paralympics are so much more than just a competition. At its core, the Olympic movement is about building community and celebrating excellence - things we're really good at in Utah. More than 80 percent of Utah residents and 100 percent of our elected officials have endorsed our Olympic bid. We are ready to host the next Winter Olympics, and we can't wait to welcome the world back to Utah in 2034."

There was a final report from Karl Stoss, IOC member and chair of the Future Host Commission for the Olympic Winter Games, the IOC body responsible for monitoring and analyzing interest in hosting the Olympic Winter Games and the Winter Youth Olympic Games.

“A Winter Olympic Games in Utah represents a fantastic opportunity,” he said. "This very strong project benefits from an exceptionally high level of public and political support. The athletes will benefit from the great facilities and opportunities this project has to offer."

“During our visit, the Commission was able to see first-hand these outstanding venues and the immense experience and expertise available,” said Mr. Stoss. “The enthusiasm for the Games was palpable in every conversation we had, both at the venues and in our meetings with athletes, sports officials, politicians and the private sector.”

In their presentations, Salt Lake City-Utah 2034 and the USOPC confirmed that they are fully committed to complying with the World Anti-Doping Code and that their commitment to clean sport and to the coordinated efforts of the IOC and the USOPC is clear.

"The FIL is very satisfied with the medium and long-term orientation of the IOC. It gives us a high degree of planning security, certainly for the next ten years. We have very good contact with the organizers in La Plagne, France, and Park City, USA. These two decisions are very good for our sport, and we are also pleased with this choice of venues for the 2030 and 2034 Winter Olympic Games in terms of sustainability. The IOC is making very good decisions with the 2020+5 agenda, which gives us a positive outlook for the future,” said FIL President Einars Fogelis during the 142nd IOC Session in Paris.
