Innsbruck and Oberhof swapped: Race Calendar for 2023/24 season revised

Termine Kunstbahn Saison 2023/2024

Berchtesgaden (FIL/22 May 2023) On March 22, 2023, the International Luge Federation (FIL) published the race calendar for the season 2023/2024. Two months later there will be a change between Innsbruck (AUT) and Oberhof (GER). Due to the planned reconstruction of the Olympic track in Igls, Innsbruck will move from February to January and the 2023 World Championships track in Thuringia will host the luge elite on two consecutive weekends in February 2024.

Nine EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cups are planned for the three months from December 2023 to March 2024. They will begin in North America in December and culminate with the World Cup finals in Latvia in early March. The highlight of the winter will be the 52nd FIL World Championships in Altenberg (GER) from January 15 to 18, 2024. The 2024 Youth Olympic Games for 15- to 18-year-olds will be held in South Korea from January 15 till February 1st, 2024.

The world's best male and female lugers will start with the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup Series from December 7-9 in Lake Placid (USA) and then travel on to Whistler (CAN). The second EBERSPÄCHER World Cup will be held there from December 14 to 16.

Right after the Christmas break, it's off to Winterberg, Germany. The coveted World Cup points will be up for grabs at the VELTINS EisArena from January 5-7. This will be followed by the early Tyrolean World Cup in Innsbruck from January 12 to 14, 2024.

After an international training week on the World Cup track, the 52nd FIL Luge World Championships will take place in Altenberg, Saxony. Directly afterwards, from February 2 to 4, the fifth EBERSPÄCHER World Cup will take place in the demanding SachsenEnergie Eiskanal in the Osterzgebirge mountains. FIL Sport Director Matthias Böhmer is happy: "We are particularly climate-friendly with our calendar this winter and have reduced travel to a minimum. On the other hand, it is a bit monotonous for our athletes to compete on the same track two weekends in a row. In the pre-Olympic season 2024/25 this will change again. Then we promise more variety", says the new FIL Sport Director.

The squad of the world's best lugers will remain in Germany after the World Championships. From February 9 to 11, the sixth Luge World Cup will be held at the LOTTO Thüringen Eisarena in Oberhof and the following weekend (February 16 to 18), the seventh World Cup stop will be held as well.

The two final EBERSPÄCHER World Cups at the end of the 2023/2024 season will be held in Sigulda, Latvia, from February 23 to 25 and the final from March 1 to 3, 2024.
