FIL Launches the First World Luge Day

Welt Rodel Tag, 3. Sonntag im Januar

Berchtesgaden (FIL/07 Jan 2024) The International Luge Federation (FIL) is delighted to announce the launch of World Luge Day. Starting in 2025, this global event will be celebrated annually on the third Sunday of January. The inaugural World Luge Day will take place on January 19, 2025.

With World Luge Day, the FIL aims to invite people around the globe to discover the joy of luge and celebrate together. This special day is designed not only for seasoned athletes but also for families, children, and anyone passionate about winter sports.

“Luge is more than just a competitive discipline – it is the world’s first winter sport and a tradition that connects people worldwide,” said FIL President Einars Fogelis. “With World Luge Day, we want to spread the enthusiasm for this sport and encourage more people to take to the sled and have fun.”

The FIL and its national federations are planning numerous activities, events and taster courses around the world to celebrate World Luge Day. For example, in addition to the Luge World Championships on Natural Track taking place in the Tyrolean winter sports resort of Kühtai from January 17 to 19, 2025, there will also be an alpine luge event for the whole family. In the Berchtesgadener Land, the Jenner adventure mountain will organize an event for World Luge Day, and the artificial track luge athletes will start at the World Cup and the European Championships in Winterberg on the first World Luge Day.

Luge fans are also encouraged to share their experiences on social media using the hashtags #WorldLugeDay and #WeltRodelTag.
