FIL Congress: Progress in preparations for the Olympic luge track in Cortina d'Ampezzo

Lake Placid (FIL/15 June 2024) The preparations for the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano-Cortina are progressing. On the second day of the 72nd FIL Congress in Lake Placid, Normunds Kotans, representative of the Organizing Committee for Milano-Cortina 2026, reported on the current status of the construction work on the luge track at the Cortina Sliding Centre.

"The construction of the Olympic track in Cortina is progressing. So far, significant progress has been made," reported Kotans, showing photos and plans to the delegates of 27 national federations. He explained the Olympic track and pointed out three tunnels and track sections such as "Labirinto" in the middle section and the historically well-known curves "Antelao" and "Cristallo" in the lower part of the track.

In total, the bobsleigh and luge track at the Cortina Sliding Center will have 16 curves and a length of 1400 meters with a height difference of 107 meters. Updated renderings of the start and finish houses were shown.

A mock-up test was already held on May 29. The next meeting of the FIL Track Construction Commission is scheduled for June 26, 2024. The pre-homologation of the track will take place in spring 2025, followed by an ITW (international training week) in autumn 2025.

Normunds Kotans emphasized the importance of the progress in track construction in Cortina: "We want to ensure that the Olympic Games take place in Cortina and will complete our luge track in time."
