FIL Congress awards 49th World Championships to Sochi
Lake Placid (RWH) The Olympic track in Sochi, Russia, is set to host the 49th International Luge Federation (FIL) World Championships in 2020. The championships were awarded during the 64th FIL Congress in Lake Placid, NY, at the weekend. The President of the Russian Luge Federation, Natalia Gart, presented the bid.
The Sanki Sliding Center hosted the luge competition as part of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in 2014. The artificial track above Krasnaya Polyana also hosted the FIL European Championships and the final event of the Viessmann World Cup in 2015.
The Junior World Championships in 2020 were awarded to the artificial ice track in Bludenz (AUT).
