Fifth victory: Felix Loch is in his own league

Winterberg (FIL): Felix Loch simply let the facts speak for themselves. "Fifth victory in the fifth race - there is little to comment on", said the 31-year-old Bavarian. At the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup in Winterberg, the three-time Olympic champion again outpaced his competitors. Austrian Nico Gleirscher followed 0.198 seconds behind, ahead of Dominik Fischnaller (0.202). "Felix is sledding in a different league," the Italian said appreciatively.

When analyzing his superiority, Felix Loch goes back to the summer. "I think we did some things right this year," he said. And he thinks of both the athletic training and the development of his sled. "We know the direction it needs to go." For competitors, this must sound like a threat. Especially since he still has one big goal this season. "At the home World Championships, I would also like to be at the top," says the 13-time World champion. At the end of January, the title bouts will take place on his home track at Koenigssee instead of Whistler, Canada.

Just as happy as the winner Loch were the runners-up. For 23-year-old Nico Gleirscher, it was only his second visit to the podium. In 2018 he had finished third in the Sprint – also in Winterberg. "I drive well here, I love the track," said the man from the Stubaital.

Dominik Fischnaller was also satisfied with third place, given the conditions. Starting last in the first run, he was only seventh fastest. "In the first heat there was no more in it, the second was a clear run," as he described his two runs. At the same time, he still had sympathy for his cousin Kevin Fischnaller. He fell back to fifth position behind Jonas Müller (Austria) after the best time in run one. "Too bad for Kevin," said Dominik Fischnaller. The podium would have been possible for him today in any case."
