Felix Loch dominates the Men's race

Oberhof (FIL) Felix Loch keeps his clean slate at the EBERSPÄCHER World Cup in Oberhof. The 31-year-old athlete from Königssee (Germany) succeeded in a perfect run in the second round in the rebuilt ice track in Thuringia. Thus he was able to turn the 0.039 seconds gap to teammate Johannes Ludwig, into a lead of 0.096 seconds. "It was a super run - from top to bottom," Loch summed up after his 43rd World Cup success. "Felix must have conjured down another wonderful run," Ludwig said appreciatively, "Madness - I didn't come close to that." The track record now stands at 43.290 seconds.

The decisive factor was that the three-time Olympic champion found the ideal line in the new section of the track after curve nine. "I made good time through the new passage, and you then take the momentum with you to the finish." Before and after the rebuild - the track in Thuringia has always suited Loch. In 2008, he won his first of now 13 World Championship titles. "Oberhof - every year again," said Loch, "I like to race here, the track suits me." No wonder when you dominate the competition like the German did.

In the first run he only finished fifth, but Jonas Müller (Austria) was able to improve to third place in run two and overtook the two Russians former World Champion Semen Pavlichenko and actual World Champion Roman Repilov. "That was such a great race," Müller was pleased, "in complete contrast to last week in Altenberg, "my second run was very round, I did really well."
