Berchtesgaden (FIL/15 Nov 2024) The election of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Athletes' Council will take place from December 10 to 12, 2024 via an online voting platform.

WADA is pleased to announce the candidates for election to the eight athletes who will form the WADA Athletes Council Group for the period 2025 to 2027. In response to WADA's September 11 notice inviting nominations from all eligible Athlete Commissions (ACs) of International Federations (IFs) that have signed the World Anti-Doping Code (Code), the agency received 26 nominations, each of which was reviewed and found to be eligible by the returning officer. As a reminder, candidates and IF ACs had to meet several eligibility criteria, all of which are detailed in the election procedure.

WADA's Athlete Committee Chair Ryan Pini was very pleased that the call for nominations had attracted so many excellent candidates: “We are thrilled with the level of interest in joining the Athlete Committee. WADA's Athlete Engagement Unit works closely with the Athlete Committee to ensure that the athlete’s experience is considered in everything we do. We look forward to working with any new and/or returning members to launch several important initiatives for athletes in 2025. We wish all candidates every success.”

The 26 candidates, along with their biographies, will be published on the WADA website and social media on Tuesday, November 19. Among them is luge athlete Elsa Desmond from Ireland.

The 2022 Beijing Olympian is hoping for many votes from winter sports athletes.
