To relieve pain in both hands

Lake Placid (pps) Courtney Zablocki, the top finishing female in U.S. Olympic luge history, successfully underwent surgery on her left and right hands to relieve pain.

Zablocki (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), who finished fourth at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino (ITA), had been experiencing pain, swelling and impaired mobility for the past year and a half. USA Luge team physician Dr. Eugene Byrne (Lake Placid, N.Y.) performed a procedure which will allow the tendons in Zablocki's hands to glide more freely and relieve the pain she had been experiencing.
