Winterberg (pps) It was a very special record that Christian Niccum set in Winterberg: Together with his partner Jayson Terdiman the US luger achieved a third place finish in the doubles’ race at this season’s second World Cup stop. It was on December 12, 1998, that Niccum achieved his last podium finish – together with his then partner Matt McClain he made it onto the podium’s top spot at the Viessmann Luge World Cup in Sigulda, Latvia. Achieving a podium place after a twelve-year long break – that is, at least for the International Luge Federation, FIL, a World record. Together with his partner Matt McClain, Niccum celebrated a total of three victories in the Viessmann Luge World Cup series (Lillehammer in 1996-1997; Igls in 1998-1999 and Sigulda in 1998-1999). Teaming up with Daniel Joye he finished sixth at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver. According to Niccum, Jayson Terdiman is his sixth doubles’ partner. At the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Niccum competed in the men’s singles, finishing in 23rd place.
