Austria defends European Championship title in the Team Relay
Winterberg (FIL/19 Jan 2025) How the result lists look alike: At the FIL European Championships, as in the previous year, Austria won the EBERSPAECHER Team Relay presented by BMW. As at the title races in Innsbruck-Igls, Germany came in second ahead of Italy. The Austrian team with Madeleine Egle, Juri Gatt/Riccardo Schöpf, Jonas Müller, and Selina Egle/Lara Kipp clocked a time of 3:11.428 minutes. “We knew that we can be good at Winterberg,” said head coach Christian Eigentler happily, “the boys and girls delivered a great performance. Germany in the line-up of Julia Taubitz, Tobias Wendl/Tobias Arlt, Max Langenhan, and Jessica Degenhardt/Cheyenne Rosenthal were 0.091 seconds short of the title. “We could have done a little better, we messed up a bit in the relay,” summarized head coach Patric Leitner. Italy (Verena Hofer, Ivan Nagler/Fabian Malleier, Dominik Fischnaller, Andrea Vötter/Marion Oberhofer) were 0.580 seconds behind.
The US team (Emily Sweeney, Marcus Mueller/Ansel Haugsjaa, Jonathan Gustafson, Chevonne Forgan/Sophia Kirby/ 1.204 seconds back) could have finished better than fourth in the World Cup ranking. However, the doubles team Mueller/Haugsjaa crashed in the finish curve and slid belly-first towards the touch pad. Acrobatically, they just managed to get the sled back into position and hit the finish touch pad for Gustafson; it was the stunt of the weekend. Behind them were Latvia (Elina Bota, Martins Bots/Roberts Plume, Kristers Aparjods, Anda Upite/Zane Kaluma/1.493) and Poland (Klaudia Domaradzka, Wojciech Chmielewski/Jakub Kowalewski, Mateusz Sochowicz, Nikola Domowicz/Dominika Piwkowska/2.221).
