Austria celebrates: Winning is even more beautiful in a team

Team Austria

Koenigssee (FIL) Austria's luge athletes have won the EBERSPÄCHER Team Relay World Cup presented by BMW at Koenigssee. Madeleine Egle, Nico Gleitscher and the doubles Thomas Steu and Lorenz Koller outsprinted the German quartet by 0.193 seconds. "Today is a Madeleine Egle day," said Lorenz Koller, referring to his teammate's first podium in a World Cup race.

"It was a super weekend, I'm on a roll at the moment," cheered Nico Gleirscher. And Thomas Steu added: "In the team it is once again so nice to win." It was only Austria's second team success after Lillehammer last year. At that time David Gleirscher competed alongside Egle and Steu/Koller.

In the individual races Julia Taubitz, Felix Loch and the doubles Toni Eggert and Sascha Benecken had dominated, but in the relay it didn't work out because of an unexpected mistake of serial winner Loch.
Third with a gap of 0.804 seconds was the Russian team with Viktoriia Demchenko, Roman Repilov and Vsevolod Kashkin/Konstantin Korshunov.

In their season debut, the US team with Summer Britcher, Jonathan Eric Gustafson and Chris Mazdzer/Jayson Terdiman finished sixth, 2.191 seconds behind.
