Artificial track calendar 2021/22 published
Berchtesgaden (FIL) About seven months before the start of the 2021/22 Olympic winter season, the International Luge Federation, FIL, has published its artificial track racing calendar.
Nine EBERSPÄCHER Luge World Cups in seven countries and on three continents are planned. The highlight of the winter will be the XXIV Olympic Winter Games 2022 in Beijing. The Olympic luge events will take place at the Yanqing Sliding Center, in Beijing province. On the weekend of 20/21 November 2021, the World Cup will also kick off there with the test competition on the new Olympic track in China.
After that, the world's best luge athletes* will travel to North America. The EBERSPÄCHER World Cups number two and three will take place in Whistler, Canada (27/28 November) and then in Park City or Lake Placid in the USA (4/5 December 2021).
Before Christmas, two more World Cups will be held on 11/12 December in Altenberg (GER) and the following weekend in Innsbruck (AUT).
Directly after the Christmas break, it's traditionally off to the Bavarian Königssee. The 6th EBERSPÄCHER World Cup will take place in Berchtesgaden-Königssee on New Year's Day on 1 and 2 January 2022. The luge teams will then travel to Latvia. The artificial track in Sigulda will see the 7th EBERSPÄCHER World Cup on 8 and 9 January. After that, the Olympic qualification will be completed.
Sigulda and the two following World Cups are still decisive for determining the seeded groups and thus the starting numbers for the Olympic Winter Games.
The 8th EBERSPÄCHER World Cup is scheduled for 15/16 January in Oberhof (GER), Thuringia, and the final in the Swiss winter sports resort of Sankt Moritz the following weekend. The only natural ice track in the World Cup circuit will also host the 53rd FIL Luge European Championships on 22 and 23 January 2022 race-in-race with the World Cup final.
On 4 February 2022, the XXIV Olympic Winter Games in Beijing (CHN) will begin with the grand opening ceremony.
