Hunderfossen (FIL) On September 1, the track manager of the Lillehammer Olympic Sliding Centre  Jan Oddvar Tangen, and the administration of the Olympic Park Lillehammer as the owner decided to postpone the season opening of the Olympic track in Lillehammer to mid-November.

“The background for this decision is the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, which affects the travel restrictions imposed by the authorities. As things stand today, almost all European countries are marked as "red" by our authorities, which means that all persons coming to Norway will be subject to a mandatory 10-day quarantine. We have had a dialogue with the authorities about an exception for athletes and their coaches, but this has not been accepted by the government. Should the COVID-19 situation change dramatically in the positive direction, we will make new assessments based on the latest information and forecasts for the future,” says Jan Oddvar Tangen, track manager of the Lillehammer Olympic Sliding Centre.

Lillehammer is thus, after Königssee, the second bobsleigh and luge track which, due to the Covid19 pandemic, has had to postpone the opening of the season to November for the first time since its opening - in Lillehammer in 1992. Königssee will start icing at the beginning of November, which means a delay of about four weeks.
