72nd FIL Congress Decides on Further Suspension of Russia
Lake Placid (FIL/15 June 2024) In an effort to ensure a safe, peaceful, and integral sport, the delegates of 27 present national federations voted by a large majority at the 72nd FIL Congress in Lake Placid (USA) to further suspend the Russian Luge Federation from FIL-sanctioned competitions.
Based on Article 4.5.8 of the FIL Statutes and in light of the ongoing war of aggression by Russia against Ukraine, the participation rights of athletes, coaches, trainers, and other officials of the Russian Luge Federation have been suspended until further notice.
The presence of Russian athletes, coaches, trainers, and other officials of the Russian Luge Federation during FIL-sanctioned sporting competitions poses a high risk. This risk affects the safety, peace, and integrity of these competitions and their participants, including those of the Russian federation itself. This threat makes the suspension proportionate and remains in effect as long as the hostilities in Ukraine continue.
