IOC President Dr Thomas Bach to attend 46th FIL World Championships

Königssee (RWH) There will be a high-profile visitor at the 46th International Luge Federation (FIL) World Championships on the artificial track in Königssee from January 29-31, 2016. The President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Dr. Thomas Bach of Germany, is set to attend the sixth championships to be staged on the oldest artificial ice track in the world.

Bach, who will arrive on Friday evening before leaving for the USA on Sunday, has enjoyed a close friendship with FIL President Josef Fendt since 1976. Bach, Olympic fencing champion in 1976, and Fendt, who won Olympic silver in luge the same year, became friends during the various celebrations and awards events in the wake of the 1976 Games. Bach’s last visit came in 2012 when he attended the FIL World Championships in Altenberg, Saxony, while he was still IOC Vice-President.
