Bakuriani/Georgia (pps) Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died tragically at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics, was posthumously decorated with one of the highest awards by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). The Olympic Order in Silver was presented to Nodar’s father David Kumaritashvili by Josef Fendt, President of the International Luge Federation (FIL) on behalf of IOC President Jacques Rogge. The inauguration ceremony was held at the memorial to the athlete in his native village of Bakuriani and attended by FIL President Josef Fendt of Germany, FIL Secretary General Svein Romstad, USA, Vice President Harald Steyrer of Austria as well as further IOC officials. Georgia's minister for sport and youth affairs, Lado Vardzelashvili, and Gia Natsvlishvili, President of Georgia's Olympic Committee, also took part in the ceremony.
